The Arts entertain, inform, challenge, encourage responses, and enrich our knowledge of self, communities, world cultures and histories. The Arts contribute to the development of confident and creative individuals, nurturing and challenging active and informed citizens. Learning in the Arts is based on cognitive, affective and sensory/kinaesthetic response to arts practices as students engage with increasingly complex content, skills and processes with developing confidence and sophistication through Year 7 to 12.
Visual Arts and Digital Media
General art classes include instruction and practical work across many art forms, including drawing, painting, printmaking, textiles, illustration, ceramics, sculpture and installations. The integration of technologies provides contemporary artistic design principles to be explored as methods of expression and modern design solutions.
Students learn about and develop practical experience in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art, contemporary Australian and international art.
Dance
Students learn about the elements of Dance, body, action, space, time and energy through original choreographic works. They participate in structured choreographic works as well as creating their own dance works in small group settings. Dance has a strong focus on whole class and group work and is an exciting and physically active area of learning. It offers students opportunities to perform to live audiences and learn challenging dance form in a fun and safe environment.
Drama
Drama is the expression and exploration of personal, emotional, social and cultural worlds, through role and situation, that engages, entertains and challenges. Students create meaning as drama makers, performers and audiences as they engage with and analyse their own and others’ stories and points of view.
In making and staging drama, they learn how to be focused, innovative and resourceful, collaborate and take on responsibilities for drama presentations. Students develop a sense of curiosity and empathy by exploring the diversity of drama in the contemporary world and in other times, traditions, places and cultures.
